UPDATE Friday 8p.m.: A La Cañada High School student fell from the roof of a building on campus this afternoon and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:55 p.m., said Wendy Sinnette, La Cañada Unified School District superintendent this evening at a press conference. She offered no further information out of respect for the family’s privacy.

“There appears to be no foul play,” said Sgt. Scott Hoglund of the LASD Homicide Unit.

All La Cañada High School sporting events will be cancelled this weekend. Over the weekend there will be additional campus security. School will resume normal hours on Monday.

Sinnette would not confirm the sex or age of the victim, just that it was a La Cañada High School student. LCHS school administration is posting crisis help information on their website. Crisis assistance will be also available at Verdugo Hills Hospital. A Connect-Ed was sent out to parents and another is scheduled on Sunday to inform families of any new crisis information that is available and to outline how Monday’s school day will start.

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. responded to reports at La Cañada High School of a juvenile who apparently committed suicide by jumping off the roof of the school library in full view of the softball field. There were kids on the field at the time
The age of the male is between 14 and 17 years. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:15 p.m.
The Homicide Unit is now investigating, according to a Sheriff’s spokesman.
