Despite a roster overload, the 2012-13 Crescenta Valley boys’ basketball team replicated last season’s success almost exactly.  CV finished second in the Pacific League this year and made it to the CIF Southern Section Division 1A semifinals, where it lost to El Toro, falling one game short of the championship round. Last year, the Falcons made it to the same round and lost to Mission Viejo.

CV won 23 games (last year’s team won 26) and was led by senior guard Cole Currie, the lone starter from last season. Without Dylan Kilgour, Davis Dragovich, Rudy Avila and All-CIF forward Christian Misi, who all graduated, Currie led a more inexperienced Falcons squad to a year most didn’t expect. Junior guard Nick Springer was also solid, providing an outside shooting threat that Kilgour previously represented.

The Falcons will lose key members Currie, Kris Jabourian and Elliot Wilson. Look for Springer, center Eric Patten and point guard Berj Krikorian to play the most prominent roles next season.

Just like last year, CV qualified for the Division I state playoffs, and played at Crenshaw High in the first round on Wednesday. After state, Currie will commit full-time to the Falcons’ baseball team, and Coach Shawn Zargarian will look toward spring practices and the summer league schedule.
