The Crescenta Valley High School’s Key Club Goodwill fundraiser was a success, raising money for two charities, the Pediatric Trauma Prevention Program and Project Eliminate.

The Key Club collected 21.5 three-by-four-by-six bins of donations for Goodwill Thrift Stores. In exchange, Goodwill donated $1,050, which was donated to the two charities. The money also benefited Key Club international and the unemployed and the disabled who are employed by Goodwill. Donations included clothing, glasses, books, pillows and jewelry.

“We almost filled up the whole trailer,” said Key Club Fundraising coordinator 2012 and CVHS junior Kaitline Cho.

The goal of Kiwanis and UNICEF fund Project Eliminate is to wipe out maternal and neonatal tetanus. The money raised funds the cost of immunizations.

“The money will go toward saving a lot of lives,” Cho said.

The Pediatric Trauma Prevention Program addresses the number one killer in children ages 14 and under – unintentional injury, Cho said. The Pediatric Trauma Prevention Program tries to prevent these injuries. The money will be directed to training pediatricians, and providing emergency equipment and community outreach programs.

“Most of the success was due to the help of the community,” Cho said.

The Key Club asked for help from organizations such as the YMCA, CV Town Council, CV/Glendale Girl Scouts service unit, GUSD, Kiwanis and school service clubs. Both Starbucks and Coffee Bean donated coffee at the event for volunteers and donors.

“I think what helped the most was reaching out to the community and asking for [assistance],” Cho said.

The Key Club is waiting for the check to be delivered to the charities.

“I just really want to thank our community,” Cho said. “They are the people that really got this fundraiser together. I’m really glad we got to run this. It’s one of the two biggest fundraisers we had this year. I’m really proud of our committee.”
