Thank You, Glendale Candidates

The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce thanks the Glendale City Council candidates, GUSD board candidates and the city clerk candidates for participating in our candidates’ forum on Monday. There are 12 candidates running for city council, seven for school board and two for the city clerk. We had 18 of the 21 candidates attend our forum. Two of the candidates could not make it due to illness and they both informed the chamber in advance. One candidate running for city council did not respond at all to the invitation.

We were encouraged to have so many candidates attend our forum. It was one of only two forums held in the far north part of Glendale. For the first time, the chamber held a forum for not only the city council candidates, but the GUSD governing board and the Office of the City Clerk as well. Both of the new additions were well received and appreciated by the community. We had over 100 people in attendance from the community and various organizations. Many in the audience said thank you to the chamber and felt this forum brought clarity on the issues and the candidates and helped them solidify for whom they will vote on April 2.

The candidates appreciated the professionalism and tone of the forum and liked that we asked different questions than the questions asked at the other forums.     It was a successful event, but there was a “call to action” that there is more work to be done. All of the candidates encouraged the community to contact them to find out more about where they stand and answer any questions that they might have. The candidates want to make sure everyone knows that they are accessible. So please take them up on this. Glendalevotes.org, created and maintained by the City of Glendale, is a website to help you get any information you need on the candidates and the charter amendments. The City of Glendale constantly updates it. On that website, there is contact information on every candidate that will allow you direct access to them. Take advantage of this! You can also find your voting location and find information about the three charter amendments that are on the ballot as well. These amendments are important and will impact how the city operates. Exercise your right to vote!

Please come and help us welcome a new business to town. The Creative Lounge, owned by Armineh Havan, will be having a ribbon cutting and grand opening on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. The Creative Lounge is an art studio with a twist! Not only will she be offering workshops and classes to kids and adults, there will also be open studio time when you can drop in and just “create.” You will have an opportunity to see the studio at the grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday, March 22. Armineh wants to let everyone know that this is an event for the entire family, so please bring your kids. There will be food, art demonstrations and information about upcoming classes and workshops. We look forward to seeing you there!

Grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. The Creative Lounge, 2656 Honolulu Ave., La Crescenta. There will be fun, food and festivities.
