Crescenta Valley Splits Win with Burbank

The CVHS Falcons faced rival Burbank Bulldogs on their home track on March 28.

The Falcons took the win in the 400m relay, running 44.9 with the team of Han Kim, Byung Jun Kim, Han Ool Lim and Christ Ordookhanian. The Bulldogs won first place in the 100m (11.3) edging out CV’s freshman Hye Kwang who captured second (11.3) and Byung Kim who took third (11.6).

CV senior Alex Damla set a personal record win running the 400m (53.1) with Burbank grabbing second and third places.

The Falcons swept the 800m with junior Nick Beatty taking first, running solo on the first lap at .55 seconds to win first(2:00.3), Mathew Manalo grabbed second (2:02.2) and Gabe Collison came in third (2:03.80).

 

 

Burbank’s Arsen Mrkcharyn again battled CV’s Collison to win the 1600m, (4:23, 2) with teammate Correa taking second (4:24.9) and Collison placing third (4:25.0).

David Shahmanyan won the 300LH (41.5) with Burbank taking second (41.7) and third (43.8).

The Bulldogs dug deep to capture first (9:54) and second(9:59) in the 3200m with Beatty taking third (10:04).

In the 1600m relay, the Falcons won with the team of Beatty (53.6), Shahmanyan (54.3), Damla (53.8) and Manalo (51.8).

The Bulldogs were particularly strong in the field events, winning all and resulting in a CV loss of 46 to Burbank’s 90.

The CV Falcons girls posted a win of 72 to 64. Kayleigh Carrillo provided her team with two personal gold wins in the 200m (24.82) (at right), 400m (57.9) as well as her assisted wins in the 400m relays with teammates Noel Wong, Emmie Walker and  Grace Keller and 1600m relay (4:06.77) with the team of Erika Johnson, Courtney Iannello, Megan Melnyk and Carrillo (below).

Emmy Walker won the high jump (5-0) (right) with the Bulldogs taking second and third.

 

 

 

 

 

Erika Johnson saw a win in the 800m (2:22.1) with Burbank taking second and third.

In the 1600m, Megan Melnyk won (5:27.2) with teammate Hannah Ruby taking third (2:33.5) behind Burbank (2:29.4).

Falcon junior Sarah Lapides (above) won two golds in the 110HH (17.1) and 300LH (50.5).

The Falcon distance team took a triple win in the 3200m with lead runner Haley Witzeman having a person best win (11:42.1) followed by Johnson in second (11:42.5) (above) and Melnyk in third (11:43.4).

Noel Wong won the long jump (15-3.75).

“Kayleigh ran well in the 400,” said Coach Mark Evans. “Haley Witzeman pr’d in the 3200. Noel Wong had a pr in the long jump. That was a key for us.”

CV Falcons participate next in the Arcadia Invitational on April 5 and April 6 and South Pasadena Invitational on April 5.

Next league meet is April 11 at CV against Burroughs/Muir.
