Starting pitcher Caitlyn Brooks was dominant against the Lady Falcons’ softball team on Thursday at Crescenta Valley High School, leading her Burbank Bulldogs to a 9-1 victory.

Brooks, just a sophomore, struck out 14 CV batters and allowed one unearned run on four hits. She walked three and loaded the bases several times, but was able to routinely overpower most Falcons to get out jams.

Falcon Chloe Fairbrother had two hits, and Jessica Morena and Hannah Cookson had the other hits. The lone run for CV came in the second inning with the bases loaded when Brady Sanford reached on an error, and Morena came home to score.

Brooks was given a 2-0 lead after one half inning when Falcons pitcher Olivia Thayer allowed two hits and two walks, and her defense committed an error. That was all Brooks needed, and she helped her own cause as she collected three hits and two RBIs in the game.

Burbank’s Ashley Russo went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. The Bulldogs scored in five of the seven innings.

With the win, Burbank improved to 10-1 overall, 3-0 in the Pacific League. CV fell to 6-7-1 and 2-1 in league. The Falcons play at Burroughs on Tuesday.
