The Glendale Police Department will offer a 12-week Citizens Academy beginning June 19, 2013. The Citizens Academy will be open to those who work or live in Glendale by application only. Applicants must be 18 years of age and be willing to undergo a background check.

The classes will cover law enforcement basics as well as the inner workings of the Glendale Police Department. The goal is to give participants a realistic view of the Department and how it functions—policies, procedures, and services. In addition, the Academy will enhance communications between the citizens and police and help create partnerships to solve long-term problems, reduce or prevent crime and improve the quality of life in Glendale. Classes will include behind the scenes looks at:

• Crime scene investigations
• Narcotics
• Gangs
• Financial Crimes
• Robbery/homicide
• Traffic
• Domestic violence
• Forensics, including the DNA lab
• SWAT
• A day at the shooting range, and more.

Department personnel—both sworn and unsworn—will teach the weekly classes which will run from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm each Wednesday at the Glendale Police Department.
