A 14-year-old boy from Roosevelt Middle School has died after a tragic accident in south Glendale.
At 2:04 p.m. this afternoon Glendale police received calls concerning a young boy who had been hit by a school bus at Columbus Avenue and Riverdale Drive. When emergency responders arrived they found the boy pinned under the bus.
“Glendale fire [personnel] were able to free the boy from [under the vehicle] and [immediately] assessed his injuries and transported him to Glendale Memorial Hospital,” said Sgt. Tom Lorenz, GPD spokesman.
Unfortunately the boy did not survive the accident and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:04 p.m.
It appeared the boy, who was on a bicycle, was riding on the sidewalk. The bus was stopped at a nearby stop sign. As the bus began to proceed through the intersection the boy rode into the vehicle’s path. The victim was not wearing a helmet, Lorenz said.
The boys parents were notified.
Glendale Unified School District has notified parents of the accident.
