In association with Live Talks Los Angeles, Glendale’s historic Alex Theatre will host music icon Burt Bacharach as part of its upcoming speaker series. The event, to be held on Tuesday, will feature an intimate setting with Bacharach and writer Mitch Albom as they discuss the artist’s life and experiences over a career that stretches nearly six decades.

“An Evening With Burt Bacharach” will mark the first event of a three-night series presented by Live Talks Los Angeles at the Alex. The theatre will also host legendary former coach of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers Phil Jackson on June 12. The first part of the series will conclude with an evening with Neil Gaiman on June 27, with the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author presenting his newest work.

“We have been around for three years. Our mission is to get around town and bring more events to as many locations as possible,” said Ted Habte-Gabr, a producer for Live Talks Los Angeles. “The opportunity to use the Alex as a venue came up, which was a delight. It’s a great space.”

More events are scheduled to be held after the planned renovations to the Alex are completed between July 1 and Oct. 31. The series is set to resume in November.

The format of the event is a program divided between a dialogue amongst Bacharach and Albom, followed by an opportunity for attendees to engage the speakers when the floor opens for questions.

Bacharach, whose impressive list of compositions has earned him three Academy Awards, an Emmy and eight Grammys among a slew of other honors, will be presenting his newest book, “Anyone Who Had a Heart.” The memoir explores Bacharach’s life and relationships with other artists throughout his career.

“Here is an artist who has written Top 40 songs, won multiple awards, a major part of the music community,” explained Habte-Gabr. “He is talking about things that matter to him and will discuss his experiences over a long career.”

Joining Bacharach onstage is Mitch Albom, who is best known as the author of “Tuesdays with Maury” and “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.” The two will discuss the history and experiences of the influential musician’s career with a unique and open dialogue.

“An Evening with Burt Bacharach” is scheduled to be the first in a number of speaker events to be held at the Alex.

“We are thrilled to host events in Glendale and hopefully can launch a lasting relationship,” said Habte-Gabr. “People can expect to see a combination of intensely creative people, business leaders, and scientific minds open up on stage.”
