Oct. 28, 1924 – May 25, 2013
Elizabeth Corinne “Connie” Prochazka died peacefully in her sleep on May 25. She was 88 years old.
Corinne was born in Norfolk, Nebr. on Oct. 28, 1924 to Landon and Freda Dean Chapman. She was one of six children (none of whom are still living). She graduated from Norfolk High School in 1943. It was during her school years that a teacher misread her name and she was known to many as “Connie” ever since.
After high school, she attended nurses’ training but decided to become a dental technician. It was while she was working in a dental lab in Norfolk that she met her future husband Walter Prochazka. They opened their own dental lab in Broken Bow, Nebr. and were married on Jan. 10, 1960. On July 1, 1963, their only child Jana was born.
In 1976, she divorced and moved with her daughter to La Crescenta where she worked at Crippen Mortuary and later at Haven of Rest Ministries and Montrose Travel.
Corinne loved gardening and watching Dodger games and Nebraska football games on TV. She also loved dogs and dessert. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Corinne is survived by her daughter Jana (and Mark) Benson of Montrose and her grandchildren Christina, Rebecca and Michael Benson.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, May 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Crippen Mortuary, 2900 Honolulu Ave., La Crescenta. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at Montrose Church, 2409 Florencita Drive, Montrose. Graveside and interment will be held at Pierce Cemetery in Pierce Nebr.
