The Crescenta Valley Fireworks Assn. is holding its annual fireworks event at the La Crescenta Elementary School field today with gates opening at 4 p.m. The event is fully funded by the community and local businesses. There will be food trucks, carnival rides and the fireworks show with the traditional patriotic theme. Tickets are $7 if purchased before the event and $10 at the door. Children 7 and under and military personnel will be admitted free.
For years, the CV Chamber of Commerce sponsored the fireworks show when it was held on the field of CV High School. After the school got a new track and field, the event was moved to the elementary school. It was during that time the CV chamber stepped away from organizing the fireworks show and it looked like it would be canceled. But during a chamber mixer at a local restaurant, community leader and chamber member Steve Pierce and others discussed how positive the fireworks display was for the community. Soon the small group of community members raised start-up funding. Pierce contacted civic leaders and, with their support, the CV Fireworks Assn. was formed. This is the seventh year of the event under the guidance of the association.
La Crescenta Elementary is located at 4343 La Crescenta Ave. Entrance gates are located just west on Prospect Avenue.
