A woman who was involved in an over the side accident on the Angeles Forest Highway on July 5 died of her injuries after being transported to the hospital.
The woman has been identified as Silvia Pantoja-Cruz, 41, of Palmdale, according to Lt. Cheryl MacWillie, Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The call came in on Friday at 10 a.m. to Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Station 82.
“[U.S. Forest Service] Fire was on scene when [LACoFD] arrived,” said Capt. Kane, LACoFD. “There was one car over the side and a [woman] had been ejected from the vehicle.”
The vehicle had tumbled 400 to 500 feet over the side of the Angeles Forest Highway at mile marker 18.29.
“[According to] witnesses, the woman was driving aggressively and at a high rate of speed traveling southbound just south of the Big Tujunga narrow bridge when she skidded off the east side of the roadway,” MacWillie said.
LACoFD hiked down to the victim and L.A. County Sheriff’s Air Rescue 5 inserted two paramedics, Kane said.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries.
Montrose Search and Rescue and LASD assisted. It is not known if the victim was wearing a seatbelt; the investigation is ongoing by the CHP.
