Offices Closed for Labor Day
In observance of Labor Day, the offices of the Crescenta Valley Weekly will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2.

LCUSD to Offer CCSS Presentation
La Cañada Unified School District is making a presentation on Common Core State Standards on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at the district’s governing board meeting.

Landisi to Leave
In a PhoneEd communicated to parents on Wednesday night, CVHS principal Linda Junge announced that teacher Brian Landisi will be leaving the school. He has been promoted to assistant principal at Glendale High School effective Sept. 3.



Workday, Campfire Planned
All are invited for the Sept. 7 campfire program, “I Don’t Like Spiders and Snakes” at Deukmejian Wilderness Park. The program will start at 6 p.m. with an hour of nature games in the picnic area. The campfire begins at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater with songs, skits, stories, smiles and S’mores. Come for all or a part of the evening. Please RSVP for this event by calling (818) 548-3795.

This is a free event.

The workday for the month will be on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Deukmejian with the theme “Deuk Dynasty … not Duck Dynasty.” Workers can meet at the park from 8 a.m. to noon for a time of tree watering, weeding and possibly painting. No need to register; just come out to the park for a morning of fun in the sun.

Deukmejian Wilderness Park is located at 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta.



Library Announces  New Hours
The La Crescenta Library has extended its hours. Beginning Sept. 3, the library will be opening Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m., providing an additional eight service hours each week.

The Library schedule is Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The La Crescenta Library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.



GYA Holding Art Exhibit Fundraiser
The Glendale Youth Alliance is holding its second Art Exhibit Fundraiser at Glendale Forest Lawn Museum/Hall of The Crucifixion-Resurrection on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.

The pubic is invited to be part of an evening of art and culture as the GYA raises funds to invest in the future workforce. Over 300 guests and 100 pieces of art are expected to fill the prestigious venue. Admission to the art exhibit is free and a percentage of all artwork sold will benefit the youth served through GYA programs. There will be wine and hors d’oeuvres available for a donation of $25.

Submissions are currently being solicited from artists and sponsorships are being secured to help raise funds for local youth.
