Claudia Frances Shaffer

Claudia passed away peacefully on Aug. 27 at Verdugo Hills Hospital after a hard fought battle with glyoblastoma. She was born at Glendale Memorial Hospital on July 21, 1952, the daughter of Ted and Mary Lewis who owned and operated Montrose Lighting. She had two siblings – Bryan who resides in Chino Hills, and Karen who resides in Tehachapi.

Claudia was raised in La Crescenta, attending Dunsmore Elementary, Clark Junior High, and eventually Crescenta Valley High School.

Claudia married Bill Shaffer on Jan. 20, 1973. A mother who wore many hats, she was a homemaker, avid baker (including countless wedding cakes), PTA president, floral decorator, continuous team mom, and was never afraid to tell it like it is. She loved nothing more than to be in her garden and watch her grandchildren play in her backyard. She remained an active CVHS alumnus and participant in organizing several reunions.

Claudia is survived by her husband of 40 years, William Joseph Shaffer; son Ryan Joseph Shaffer and his wife Jennifer; daughter Christina Frances Gocke and her husband John. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Hailey Shaffer, Kaelynn Shaffer, Joshua Shaffer, Theodore Gocke, William Gocke and Taylor Gocke.

Funeral service will be on Sept. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2411 Montrose Ave. Montrose.
