After the Academic Performance Index was released last week, Valley View Elementary found itself 12 points higher than last year.

The API is part of the Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999. It measures the academic performance and growth of schools. The scores range from 200 to 1000. The state’s goal is that all schools reach the 800 mark.

Crescenta Valley schools are all well above the 800 mark. Valley View Elementary showed the highest gain by rising 12 points from its 2012 scores.

The other schools throughout Crescenta Valley saw their scores drop, but all are well above the state’s goal.

The 2013 scores are:

CV High School scored 888, down 6 points; Clark Magnet High School scored 913, down 7; Rosemont Middle School scored 937, down 22. At the elementary level, Dunsmore scored 908, down 4; Fremont 894, down 20; La Crescenta scored 877, down 22; Lincoln scored 915 which was no change from the last reporting period; Monte Vista scored 946, down 5; Mountain Avenue scored 942, down 10; Valley View scored 937, up 12 points.

The overall score for the Glendale Unified District was 861.

The population of a school is categorized into subgroups including students of various ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, those with varying levels of English language skills and students with disabilities.

Each group, along with the entire population of the schools as a whole, is expected to meet a certain rate of growth, which all schools in the Crescenta Valley also met or exceeded.
