9/11 Remembered

On Wednesday, 9/11 will be observed at several locations throughout Crescenta Valley and Glendale.

On Sept. 11, Crescenta Valley Remembers will honor the victims of 9/11. The Early Rodders Car Club will be driving past each law enforcement and fire station in the area beginning at 8:15 a.m. concluding at 8:45 a.m.

The route will begin at Ralphs market parking lot at 2675 Foothill Blvd. From there the cars will travel north on Rosemont Avenue turn east on Laughlin Street and south on Briggs Avenue, then west onto Foothill Boulevard, north on Ramsdell Avenue and west on Orange Avenue; then south onto Pennsylvania Avenue, west on Foothill Boulevard, south on New York Avenue, east on Honolulu Avenue and north on Ocean View Boulevard. The cars will then travel east on Foothill Boulevard, ending at Los Angeles County Fire Station 82 at 352 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.

Community members are invited to stand outside their homes and businesses to observe in silence as the cars drive by.

The LACoFD will hold an observance on Wednesday at 10 a.m. At that time there will be an “All Call” with a ceremonial message activated by Command and Control.

At 9 a.m. the Employee Human Relations Committee of the City of Glendale will hold a 9/11 Memorial Moment of Silence at Perkins Plaza at 141 N. Glendale Ave. in Glendale.

September 11, 2013 marks the 12-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the crash of Flight 77 in Pennsylvania. The lives of over 3,000 Americans were lost. Among those tragically taken were 343 firefighters from the New York Fire Dept.

The Los Angeles County board of supervisors has proclaimed Sept. 11, 2013 as “National Day of Service and Remembrance” throughout Los Angeles County. The board ordered all flags throughout Los Angeles County be flown at half-staff in honor of those individuals who died as a result of the terrorist attacks in 2001.
