At tonight’s Crescenta Valley Town Council meeting, discussion will continue on the big rig parking issue with a representative from the Los Angeles County Public Works Traffic and Lighting in attendance.

In past meetings, the council opened the floor to discussion concerning big rig trucks parked throughout the community, sometimes for over a week. The issue was not for those big rig drivers that pull over to rest for 24 hours but for those who park on freeway overpasses and Foothill Boulevard for long periods of time.

The points of concern made in previous meetings by councilmembers and residents included the areas where the big rigs park, citing Ramsdell Avenue near CV High School as particularly troublesome. With limited parking available near the high school, big rigs that are parked along the street for days reduce parking space for those attending the school. Others voiced concern about the contents inside the big rigs.

During the previous CVTC meetings, all who voiced their opinions were in favor of some type of signage and law enforcement response to the overnight parking.

Signs have been installed by the Public Works Dept. restricting parking and more signs will be placed.

“We are going to do something similar to Altadena,” said Pete Flores, civil engineer for public works.

Altadena had faced similar issues and added restrictions including no parking for vehicles over 10,000 pounds between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“We are going to [restrict] from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.,” Flores said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept., Crescenta Valley Station, will be in charge of issuing any traffic violations during those hours.

Flores has spoken to several residents, law enforcement and CVTC members and will present his findings and discuss future actions at tonight’s meeting.

Also on the agenda will be information shared about the upcoming Two Strike Memorial Wall Dedication, the CVTC Pancake Breakfast and introduction of the 2013-14 CV Youth Town Council.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library Community Room, 2809 Foothill Blvd.
