Celebrating Second Wind Dreams at Mountview

DSCN3304
On Sept. 7, Mountview Retirement joined 500-plus Second Wind Dreams elder care communities to celebrate the journey of aging and proving Second Wind Dreams can come true during the first ever National Second Wind Dreams Day.

Second Wind Dream recipients and their families gathered during the afternoon event and discussed the Second Wind Dreams accomplished and discussed more dreams to achieve.

Since the Second Wind Dreams program was introduced at Mountview Retirement in 2012, residents have experienced these Second Wind Dreams: a private floral arrangement class by a local florist was held for a resident who wanted to learn flower arranging; art supplies were purchased for a resident who strives to be watercolor artist; a lunch date in Hawaii was recreated for a resident who used to live in Hawaii. She was taken to Damon’s restaurant in Glendale, outfitted in leis and was surprised by friends and family; a resident took a daytrip to Huntington Gardens to visit her favorite gardens and the Pinkie and Blueboy paintings on display there; a Hawaiian dancing group performed the favorite songs of another Hawaiian resident who missed good Polynesian music. A vinyl LP of her old hula instructor was found and presented it to her; arranged for a 99-year old resident who loved the Lakers to personally meet and greet L.A. Lakers’ Magic Johnson.

Some dreams cost very little, some cost much more. Mountview Retirement is always looking for volunteers or donations to help make these dreams come true. For more information, visit http://www.secondwind.org/ or call
