Two Strike Memorial Wall Dedication
The community is invited on Sunday, Sept. 29 to the dedication of the Two Strike Park Memorial Wall taking place at noon at the park.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion extends a special invitation to any family members of those who are named on the memorial wall. Along with the unveiling of the wall, there will be performances by the CV High School band, food and more.

Audubon Bird Walk at Preserve
The public is invited on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to learn about birdlife abundant on the preserve. Mark Osokow from the Audubon Society will be guiding the walk. He is the founder of the San Fernando Valley Bird Observatory, which is currently monitoring birds in local hillside communities using bird banding and other methods. Binoculars, sturdy shoes and long pants are recommended.

The preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. Due to the 5K run at Rosemont, attendees are asked to park at the preserve.

This event is free to the public, all ages, no reservations required.

Also on Sept. 28 is the Season of the Earth, a Rosemont Preserve tour followed by a reception at the La Crescenta Library.

La Crescenta resident Frank Colcord is co-chair of the Friends of Rosemont Preserve. He will lead a leisurely, educational walk through the preserve introducing participants to the origins, current programs and future plans of the preserve, as well as provide an overview of the flora and fauna that grace the site.  The walk will begin at 10 a.m. at the preserve, followed by the reception.  Participants should wear sturdy shoes and long pants.

This event is free to the public, all ages welcome; no reservations required.

Attendees are asked to park for this event at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave.

The library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.


Chamber 5K on Saturday
Runners and walkers are invited to lace up this Saturday, Sept. 28 for the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce 5K run/walk at Two Strike Park. The event begins at 7 a.m. Online registration is still available at www.crescentavalleychamber.org/5k or visit the chamber office at 3131 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

The fee is $20 for pre-entry and $25 on Saturday. Each person will receive a race T-shirt with each paid entry fee.

Group Show Opens Fall Exhibitions At Gallery
“Lazy Susan 3: Go Figure,” the third in an ongoing series of art exhibitions continues in the Glendale Community College Art Gallery on through Oct. 17.

The group exhibition includes the work of Judie Bamber, F. Scott Hess, Gegam Kacherian, Jim Morphesis, curator Mahara T. Sinclaire and Eloy Torrez. The series of exhibitions highlights figurative artists and their relationship to the art historical fabric of Los Angeles.

An opening reception will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 26 from noon to 1p.m. The artists’ reception will be Saturday, Sept. 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Relay for Life – Foothills Holds Event
Anyone who knows someone who has been affected by any type of cancer, whether as a caregiver or patient, is invited to attend the Relay for Life – Foothills kick off event on on Saturday evening Oct. 26 to learn how to “fight back” in La Crescenta/La Cañada/Montrose. The foothills team and supporters will be gathering at the northwest corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue at 5:15 p.m. to hear inspirational stories and share experiences. After, candles will be distributed and lit, then a brief procession will take place in the 2100 and 2200 blocks of Honolulu Avenue to kick off plans for the spring Foothills Relay for Life event.
