On October 1, the Glendale Police Department will be introducing an online reporting  program.  This new service will allow the members of the public to generate their own police reports by going to the Glendale Police Department homepage and clicking the icon Citizens Online Reporting System.  The new program is a reporting system for non-emergent crimes and lost property that occur within the city of Glendale, CA.

As to crime reports, citizens will be able to report these when there is no suspect information available, yet it does allow for individuals to upload photos to assist in the investigation.  When some of these crimes may have previously gone unreported, we should now see a more accurate trend of activity that will assist in the identification of the suspect(s) due to the ease of the reporting system.

In 2012, the Glendale Police Department generated over 1,900 reports that did not have suspect information.  These reports include: Identity theft, petty theft, grand theft, vandalism, bicycle theft and lost property.    The new program allows the public to report crimes while increasing the availability of patrol officers to handle more serious calls for service.  For the past several years, many California law enforcement agencies have provided this service and Glendale looks forward to being part of the program.

“The department is committed to being on the leading edge, and is excited to implement the on-line reporting system.  We want to utilize technology where it makes sense to improve service, and this system gives our community one more option for making a police report, said Deputy Chief Carl Povilaitis.  “In addition to this new system, the department will continue to take reports the way it always has, though we expect many people will find the on-line reporting system more convenient.”

To assist those who do not have access to a computer, a computer kiosk has been established in the Police Department lobby located at 131 N. Isabel Street.   It is available to the public 7 days a week between the hours of 7am and 7pm.  Members of the public may also log into the system at our various Glendale Library branches.   The public can log on to the Citizens Online Reporting System  which will allow entry process to begin.  Once the report is completed, a case number is generated and a copy can be printed for free.

All reports will be approved by a Supervisor and routed to the Investigative Services Division.
