St. Luke’s, St. George Hosting Blessing of the Animals
Two local churches are hosting their annual blessing of the animals service.

St. George’s Episcopal Church at 808 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada will celebrate the Blessing of the Animals with a special outdoor service on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Amy Pringle, Rector of St. George’s will preside.

People are invited to bring any and all creatures, great and small, for a special blessing to honor the bond with all living creatures. This year special tribute will be made to assistance dogs that add an invaluable contribution to the lives the people they serve.

Also on hand before and after the service will be a representative from the Glendale Humane Society who will be able to answer questions about pet adoption as well as Heahter Phelan of Barnflies who will bring various farm animals to meet and greet.

At St. Lukes of the Mountains at 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta, a blessing of the animals service is also on Sunday. Gathering is at 9:30; service begins at 10 a.m.

KIDS Coming Up
The Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash – KIDS – hosted by the Glendale Kiwanis Club is being held at Verdugo Park on Oct 12. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., an estimated 17,000 rubber ducks will race to the finish line, earning cash prizes for their adopters. Also in Verdugo Park will be the Glendale Police Dept.’s K9 unit. The dogs, and their officer handlers, will demonstrate techniques the animals use in helping the officers in their day-to-day police work.

GWP, CVWD Holding Classes
Glendale Water & Power (GWP), in partnership with the Metropolitan Water District, is offering Glendale residents free California Friendly landscape classes. Residents will learn to become a more water wise gardener and discover how to create a beautiful and easy to maintain garden without running up water bills.

The class will teach residents about landscape design, how to install and maintain a smart irrigation system, and choosing the right California friendly plants. The next classes is Oct. 19. Spring classes are also available.

Classes will be on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and reservations are required since space is limited.
