Benjamin “Bean” Mitchell

Boy Scout Troop 390, chartered to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, La Crescenta, announced that Benjamin “Bean” Mitchell was officially awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America on Sept. 24. In recognition of this accomplishment, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held on Nov. 17 at his home.

Starting as an 8-year-old Cub Scout in Sandy, Utah, Bean has enjoyed his many years of scouting, especially summer camps. While less than 8% of all boys who enter scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Bean joins an impressive group of individuals who are also Eagle Scouts such as former President Gerald Ford, Steven Fossett, astronaut Neil Armstrong and director Steven Spielberg.
For his Eagle project, Bean organized the efforts of 24 volunteers who provided over 100 hours of service. The goal was to design and build three collapsible changing rooms for his high school drama department at CVHS. Bean has been an avid chef since he was very young and wanted to incorporate cooking into his Eagle project. To raise funds for the building supplies, the Scouts prepared and assembled homemade burgers, fries and cupcakes for 175 take-out meals. The fundraiser was so successful that in addition to the changing rooms, there was enough money to also contribute over $500 to Crescenta Valley High School’s Theater Arts Foundation. Bean would like to thank those who supported his Eagle Project, including Los Gringos Locos, Costco, Trader Joe’s in Montrose, and the La Crescenta Ralph’s for their donations.
Bean is a sophomore at Crescenta Valley High School where he is a member of Falcon Players drama troupe and has participated in cross-country and track. Also, as an active member of his LDS youth group, he attends early morning seminary and is his class’s seminary president.

Bean is the son of Andrew and Kari Mitchell.
