On Tuesday, October 15th, the Glendale Police Department was notified by the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) regarding an allegation of a sexual assault involving an hourly Los Angeles County Regional Occupational Instructor and a 14 year old female on the campus of Hoover High School. The suspect was identified as Delvon Jackson, a resident of Los Angeles, who is an instructor for a Public Safety Class offering an opportunity to those students who have an interest in related occupations.

Delvon Jackson was arrested by Detectives from the Glendale Police Department at district offices the following day. He is currently being held on two counts of sexual assault on a minor. Bail has been set at $200,000.00 pending the on-going investigation, presentation and review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Upon arrival at the high school on October 15th, the Detective’s first priority, working with GUSD officials, was to ensure the safety of the victim and the students at Hoover High School while initiating a criminal investigation. In addition to the allegations, the investigation has revealed that Delvon Jackson has lead persons to believe he was a former police officer with the Inglewood Police Department and that may have provided him the opportunity to gain respect and trust amongst the students. Detectives learned that Jackson was employed as a part-time hourly employee for the City of Inglewood in Parking Control. He was separated from the City of Inglewood in 2009. According to Detectives, Delvon Jackson was never a police officer for Inglewood, nor any other police agency.

The Glendale Unified School District, in cooperation with the Police Department has released the following statement.

“There have been allegations made against an ROP (Regional Occupational Program) hourly instructor at Hoover High School. The site administration took immediate action upon being notified of the allegations and the instructor was promptly removed from the presence of students. All employees in the Glendale Unified School District go through background checks, are vetted, and fingerprinted prior to being hired. In light of what we have seen recently in other districts, the Glendale Unified School District provides training to our school administrators to do a thorough investigation whenever allegations are made, as was the case in this situation. During the course of the investigation the employee will not be in a school setting. The district will move expeditiously for termination should there be any evidence of wrongdoing. The number one priority of the Glendale Unified School District is the safety and education of all our students. The Glendale Unified School District is fully cooperating with the Glendale Police Department and to avoid any interference with the investigation, will defer comments during their investigation.” Dr. Richard Sheehan, GUSD Superintendent.
