PRESCHOOL EXPO PLANNED
The 3rd Annual Preschool Expo hosted by the Mom’s Club of the Foothills will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the Presbyterian Church in La Crescenta. Multiple preschools will be present as well as kid related businesses. The Presbyterian church is located at 2902 Montrose in La Crescenta.

NORWEGIAN
CULTURE EXPLORED
The community is invited to come learn/share about Norwegian culture on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Edvard Grieg Sons of Norway Lodge #74. There will be an installation of new officers and a social with refreshments afterward.  This is a free event.
The meeting takes place at 4011 La Crescenta Ave. at the American Legion Hall.

MAZEN TO HEAD REPUBLICAN MEETING
Local veteran newspaper journalist Don Mazen will be the guest presenter at the Jan. 25 meeting of the La Cañada Flintridge Republican Club. The meeting is being held at the Beckham Grill in Pasadena.
The dinner meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program. Mazen’s presentation will focus on the “ills of President Barack Obama in his first year in office.”

LCWC PLANS SALE
The La Crescenta Woman’s Club is holding its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. Free parking.
The sale is being held at the clubhouse at 4004 La Crescenta Ave. in La Crescenta.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
WINNERS TO PERFORM
The Women’s Committee of the Glendale Symphony Orchestra Association presents the Music Scholarship Winners Concert on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brand Library in Glendale. The public is invited to this free concert. The afternoon will feature music performed by many young talented musicians. Music by Brahms, Ravel, Puccini, Chopin, Gounod, Bartok And many more.

KIWANIS HOLDING BOOK DRIVE
The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada is hosting a book drive from Feb. 1 – Feb. 21 and is seeking help in collecting 2,000 new or lightly used picture books from the community. The books will be donated to various organizations including the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center – Public County Hospital, inner city schools
and libraries, Toll Middle School in Glendale, and Union Avenue Elementary in Los Angeles. Books can be dropped off at La Cañada Books & Toys, 653 Foothill Blvd. # A in La Cañada Flintridge and Once Upon A Time at 2207 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose. These stores offer a 20% discount on any book purchased for the book drive. Books can also be dropped off at Plan Spec Construction at 4545 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta (across from Sheriff’s Station).
A tax deductible receipt will be mailed if you leave your name and address in the bag.

SHERIFFS SUPPORT GROUP HOSTING DAY AT THE RACES
The Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group and the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce have teamed up again for the Second Annual Crescenta Valley Day at the Races. The event will take place at the Santa Anita Race Track on March 21.
The cost to participate in the event is $25 for adults (18 and over) and $15 for attendees that are 17 years and under. Each attendee will enjoy nine exciting Thoroughbred races, parking, official race program, BBQ lunch of tri tip sandwiches provided by Schreiner’s, soft drinks and “expert” handicapping advice from Rick Dinger. Once again, the event coincides with the Cal Rod Car Show, which features hundreds of street rods, classics and customs on display in the infield.
There will also be a raffle and silent auction so everyone will have the opportunity to leave a winner. Proceeds from this event benefit both the CV Chamber and the CV Sheriff Support Group.

NOON CONCERTS
OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the newly restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation). All are encouraged to relax during their lunch hour with live music. Light lunch for purchase by Angela’s Bistro available for $6.

CVHS CLASS OF 2000
HAVING 10 YEAR REUNION
The Crescenta Valley High School class of 2000 is having its 10 year reunion on July 17, 2010. From 6:30 to 10 p.m. there will be a hosted bar, reception buffet and awesome door prizes. The event is being held at the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. The cost is $75 per person if paid by Jan. 31; then $85 before April 30; $95 before June 30.
