The following students receive Fort Lewis College Foundation scholarships:

Catherine Adams and Maia Shields, both of La Crescenta, each received an Edith McPherson Scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. Adams received $1,000. Adams’s major is English – writing option. Shields received $750 for. Shields’s major is psychology.

Lucas Rowton, of La Cañada Flintridge received the Foundation Work Study in the amount of $2,000 for the 2013-14 academic year. Rowton’s major is exercise science – exercise specialist option.

Fort Lewis College is located in Durango, Colo.

Maya Tripathy of La Cañada, who is majoring in BFA acting at Emerson College, is part of Emerson stage’s production of “The Love of the Nightingale.” She will be portraying Helen/female chorus.

Emerson’s production is directed by Sarah Hickler and ran from Oct. 10 to Oct. 13 at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box Theatre.

The following students have been admitted to Carleton College as members of the Class of 2017:

Ryan Schloessmann of Glendale, Zachary Montes of La Crescenta who is a graduate of St. Francis High School and Owen Solis of La Crescenta who is a graduate of Crescenta Valley High School.

Tae Min Kim of Montrose enrolled at Colby College in Waterville, Maine this fall. Before classes began Kim took part in an orientation that included an introduction to Colby’s rigorous academics, rich cultural life, and community involvement opportunities as well as a three-day outdoor excursion. A graduate of Crescenta Valley High School, Kim is the son of Jongwon Kim and Miseon Hwang.

Craig Tweedy of Glendale earned a Bachelor of Science with a focus in criminal justice management from Union Institute & University.

The following local residents received merit scholarships to attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. for the fall 2013 semester. These merit scholarships are renewable for up to 120 credits if criteria are met.

Sarah Lim from La Crescenta was one of 1,422 students named to the dean’s list for spring 2013. Biola students are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 of more credit units and whose cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.2. This past spring, 35% of Biola students achieved this academic goal.

Ian Kim of Sunland and Brandon Um of La Cañada, both of the Class of 2015, were among 31 students who were awarded the Major Peterson Legion of Merit Award from the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad.
This award is presented to cadets who exhibit excellence in citizenship, leadership, and personal appearance. The cadet must be in a leadership position with the rank of corporal or higher during the previous semester, and must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and a citizenship grade of excellent for each grading period.
Ian Kim of Sunland, Class of 2015, received the Dean Raymond Ede Superior Academic Achievement Award. Named after the late Dean Raymond Ede who served the academy for over 40 years, the award is granted each semester to cadets with high achievement in the school’s college preparatory program. Kim has maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.8.

Caroline Fontes of La Cañada was awarded a scholarship at Denison University in Granville, OH. Fontes, a member of the class of 2017, received a Denison Alumni Award. The Denison Alumni Award is based on academic achievement, leadership and personal merit.
