Family Promise of the Verdugos (previously known as Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley), an Affiliate of Family Promise, works with children and families who are homeless to regain their sustainable independence. In celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary of serving families across the country,   Burbank Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy declared the week of Oct. 20 through Oct. 27 as Family Promise Week throughout the City of Burbank. She presented a proclamation at Oct. 20 Family Promise Volunteer Appreciation Tea hosted by Temple Sinai of Glendale.

In conjunction with the national Family Promise anniversary, the local Affiliate announced that the Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley, which is entering its fourth year of service, would be rechristened Family Promise of the Verdugos. According to the board, the new name more accurately reflects their service area, which includes Glendale, Burbank, North Hollywood and Eagle Rock. The name change coincides with the recent opening of a second case management office in Glendale, located at 134 N. Kenwood St. Reintroduced at the Oct. 20 was executive director Kimberly Rhodes, who joined Family Promise of the Verdugos in early January.

Since 1988, Family Promise has assisted more than 500,000 people with housing, case management and other services. The program brings together houses of worship to provide temporary homes, facilities to provide space during the day for case management and thousands of volunteers who, by sharing a few hours of their time, enable families to turn their lives around.
