Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day
The community is invited on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. to help restore the natural habitat at the Rosemont Preserve and get some exercise along the way! The agenda includes the removal of invasive plants and planning the restoration of the southern slope.

Participants should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Those who have a shovel, spade, loppers or clippers, should bring them along. Other tools will be available.

The preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave.

This event is free to the public, all ages, no reservations required. In the event of rain, the restoration day will be cancelled.

It’s Two, Two, Two Events in One (Day)
Two programs are planned for Dec. 14.

At Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta, at 9 a.m., a special workday is being held (please note that the start time is at 9 a.m.). Participants will be in the park for a morning of tree planting (trees generously donated by the Crescenta Valley Group of the Sierra Club), weeding, tree watering and park maintenance projects.

Then, in the evening at the Glendale Sports Complex, a night hike and program begins at 7 p.m. near the soccer fields. The night will begin with a half-mile hike on the fully accessible Mountain Do Trail. Then, participants will head up the Catalina Verdugo Trail (two miles in length) to brave the elements and the darkness. The program concludes with snacks (cookies and hot chocolate) and a few holiday songs. This program is free, but space is limited.

Second Annual 5K Run/Walk for Arthritis
Kick off the holiday season by doing something fun while fighting for a great cause! The Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis will bring together competitive runners and families from throughout Los Angeles County on Sunday, Dec. 8 to raise funds for a cure for arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability.

The holiday-themed, certified 5K Run/Walk will kick off at 8:30 a.m. in front of The Alex Theatre at 216 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale. More than 1,500 participants will don festive holiday attire and tie jingle bells to their shoelaces as they race to the finish line for a cure.

The Los Angeles Jingle Bell Run/Walk is sponsored by Abbvie and locally presented by Massage Envy Spa, Greater Los Angeles. Los Angeles County Arts Commission Issues Call for Qualifications
Los Angeles County Arts Commission, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Chief Executive Office, has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) call for a student art competition to inspire the county’s window display at the California State Capitol in Sacramento.

The display, which is seen by nearly 500,000 annually, will highlight the local sights, attractions, events and history of Los Angeles County. All undergraduate college students who both live and attend school in Los Angeles County are encouraged to apply. The deadline for qualification applications is Jan. 8 at 5 p.m.

The Arts Commission will review qualifications and select three student finalists to receive stipends to create original art designs. One winner will be selected, which will be used as inspiration for an exhibit designer to build the display.
