St. Luke’s Anglican Church Plans Holiday Events
St. Luke’s Anglican Church welcomes the community to attend its many upcoming Christmas events in celebration of the birth of Jesus. The events and dates are:

Dec. 22 at 9:30 a.m., St. Luke’s Children’s Pageant will bring to life the nativity story as told by St. Luke’s children and youth. Held at the SDA Church Chapel, 300 Vallejo Dr., Glendale.

Dec. 24  at 5:30 p.m., a candlelight Christmas Eve service with Holy Eucharist will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Chapel, 300 Vallejo Dr., Glendale.

“Come one, come all,” said Rector Rob Holman, encouraging the community to attend its many upcoming Christmas events in the coming weeks.

Winter Solstice Ceremony
On Saturday, Dec. 21 starting at 6 p.m., the Center for Spiritual Living will be celebrating the winter solstice. This ceremony will be led by Marsalee Forrester who has studied and been involved with shamanic traditions for 18 years. The ceremony will take place indoors and outdoors, rain or shine. It’s a very special ceremony involving making personal prayer bundles, letting go of what no longer serves as the highest good, and setting the intention to bring in what is desired and deserved.

It is requested that the participants not have any mind-altering substances, including alcohol, for 24 hours prior and 24 hours afterwards. (Does not include medications).

Things participants need to bring: a dish for potluck, a white candle (with a holder), a floating candle, an item from nature for the altar.

Dress in layers for extra warmth, if necessary.

Some items will be supplied for those who don’t bring what is needed.

A love donation will be collected.

All are invited to this special evening of ritual and celebration.

Tuesday Table Talk  
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Bethel Church in Sun Valley, (818) 767-4488 will show the film “Cry, the Beloved Country.”

Shot in the aftermath of Nelson Mandela’s election, this film tells the story of two men – one black, one white – who must cope with family tragedy in the apartheid era in South Africa (PG-13).

For the children, at the same time “How to Train Your Dragon” will be screened. The videos will be preceded by a potluck supper.

The potluck starts at 6:30 p.m., the presentation starts at 7:15 p.m.  followed by dessert and discussion at about 9 p.m. Free.
