Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department homicide unit continues to investigate the remains of a man and a woman that were found in the Angeles National Forest near mile marker 19.43. They are hopeful that the discovery of jewelry found near the remains may be recognized by someone in the community.
“We hope someone will recognize this jewelry,” said Det. Phillip Guzman.
Two hikers discovered a skull while hiking in the forest on Dec. 24. Detectives investigated and discovered another skull and partial remains a few miles away from the original find. Since then an anthropologist has been working with the county corner’s office to help indentify the remains. The only thing they have been able to confirm thus far is the sex of the victims, said Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner at the L.A. County coroner’s office.
“There was a bullet hole found in one of the skulls,” Guzman said at the time of the discovery.
Authorities said the bones were in the area before the Station Fire but how long before is not known.
