The 38th annual Festival of Trees luncheon, hosted by the Assistance League of Glendale, was held on Dec. 8 at the Glendale Hilton. This year’s theme, Golden Christmas, was evident with golden trees on every table and golden ornaments for table favors.

The ballroom at the Glendale Hilton was filled with 21 spectacular items for the lucky winners. One of the interesting and unique items was a money tree filled with money folded into origami shapes provided by Assisteen Rachel Franklin and presented by Donna Franklin and Leni Richardson.

In addition to bidding on the trees and holiday items, old friends and new got into the Christmas spirit donned in their holiday attire while dining and listening to the carolers from CVHS Charismatics.

Since 1976, the Festival of Trees has been a beloved tradition that begins the holiday season. All surplus money raised is returned to the community through philanthropic programs. Members decorate trees and present various items for an opportunity drawing. The decorated trees and items are underwritten by members of the community.

The annual event raises funds for the ALG’s seven philanthropies that include Operation School Bell that provides new school clothes for elementary students. ALG also provides scholarships for high school and college students; offers SAT seminars; hosts Senior Neighborhood Fellowship for seniors so they can socialize and be entertained at the Glendale facility; coordinates Authors & Illustrators, which gives thousands to school libraries in addition to bringing authors to local schools; packs Foster Friends backpacks for Social Services to give to children in transition; provides vocational training for challenged adults who work at the ALG Thrift Alley in Glendale.
