Amy Smith Sherburn passed away peacefully in the home she shared with her daughter Ann. She was 90 years old.

Amy Kathryn Smith was born in Willoughby, Ohio. She was the second child of six born to Leslie and Amelia Smith. She grew up in Gates Mills, Ohio where her father was both the chief of police and the chief of the fire department.

She married the one and only love of her life, Joseph Sherburn, in 1944. After the birth of their first child Kathy, Joe and Amy moved to La Cañada. Joe owned and operated several restaurants including Sherb’s, The Yellow Jacket and The Crest House. In their early years in La Cañada, Kathy was joined by four more children: John, Ann, Joe Jr., and Rebecca.

Amy was an active member of the La Crescenta First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, was in a Missionary Circle and helped to lead the Love Circle, which is a ministry to shut-ins. She worked for many years at Bronson’s Pharmaceuticals, where she was Mr. Bronson’s executive secretary.

Ten years after the death of her beloved Joe, Amy left her home of 50 years in La Cañada and went to live with her daughter and son-in-law in La Crescenta.

She loved the Lord, her husband and her family. She lived a life filled with gratitude and thankfulness.

She is survived by two sisters Marylou Palfy and Nancy Seitz; her children Kathy (Jerry) Herling, John Sherburn, Ann (Richard) Euson, Joe (Michele) Sherburn, and Rebecca; her 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Amy’s life will be held at the La Crescenta Baptist Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave., on Jan. 4 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Amy’s name to either   The Braille Institute, Angels of the Valley Hospice Care or to the First Baptist Church Campership Fund.
