Fathers and daughters danced their hearts out at Valley View Elementary School’s annual Father – Daughter Dance. On Friday night, Jan. 29, more than 180 fathers and daughters dressed formally for a Mysterious Mystical Night held in the Valley View Elementary auditorium.
The popularity of the annual event was apparent as all tickets were sold the first week they went on sale.
The evening started at 7:30 p.m. when fathers with their daughters enjoyed dinner, took pictures, then danced to contemporary songs. A giant projection of the school mascot, the Valley View eagle, adorned the walls as it sat perched in the trees, and masks of every color decorated the entire auditorium. Dance lights at the auditorium entrance and on the dance floor added to the effect.
“I look forward to this dance every year. I love coming out with my daughter and meeting other fathers with their daughters. I am extremely excited to dance with my daughter,” dad Eddie Diaz said.
The Father and Daughter Dance Committee of the PTA organized this event. Thirteen parent, teacher, and school staff volunteers met throughout the year planning for this night. Zoey White has chaired the Father and Daughter Dance Committee for the past four years.
No profit was made from the dance.
“I love everything about this event. Watching fathers and their daughters have a close bonding time is simply amazing,” event coordinator White said.
As the fathers and daughters laughed and danced through the night, the success of the evening was obvious – from the beginning of dinner all the way to the last song.
