Greetings from CV Alliance
Thank you for visiting our website! Google Analytics tells us that you spend about five minutes on our site, visiting four pages!
“Bullying Prevention” efforts within Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) is being presented tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at CV High’s library, 2900 Community Ave.
We put together Teen Trials & Tribulations in response to community requests. Bullying was mentioned by concerned adults and we learned through 100 letters written by CV teens that 4.4% agree. This evening we’ll hear what’s being done. CV Alliance is grateful for the productive partnership we enjoy with GUSD, on all levels, and we hope you join us.
Parent sessions begin on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA, upstairs. Pam Erdman will discuss, “The Truth About Parenting Nobody Ever Told You.” Be honest about all the parts of parenting that are not working. Pam’s going to help you straighten things out. Childcare is available through the Y, another steady partner!
These sessions continue through April 15; we’re off on March 18 during spring break.
Coming next is a partnership with Crescenta Valley Town Council and the City of La Cañada Flintridge, and California’s Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and two prevention entities like ours: Saving Lives SFV and Didi Hirsch Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Services. We will ask retailers to post signs warning customers that it’s illegal to provide alcohol to minors. Look for them, and thank retailers for doing their part to prevent underage drinking.
My friend owns liquor stores in San Fernando Valley. He purchased cash registers with buttons reading “18 years old” and “21 years old” so when an ID is swiped, the customer’s age is verified. It’s another check to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors. He questioned our impact when so many companies are foreign-owned. I didn’t know that Jim Beam will be owned by Japan’s Suntory Holdings, Miller is owned by London-based South African Breweries and that Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser) is owned by InBev of Belgium, and run by Brazilians. My response, “Think globally, act locally!” We have amazing allies; we’ll do fine!
Thank you!
