Crescenta Valley High School, with the help of the Crescenta Cañada YMCA, will be hosting its annual Move Fair, or Teens Move Day, on Feb. 20 on the school campus. Several local businesses and organizations will be hosting booths at tables set up in the CV quad from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The purpose of the Move Fair is for local businesses and organizations to introduce their programs and job or volunteer opportunities for teens.

Last year, there were representatives from large corporations, such as Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, Tree People, Ahead with Horses and more. This year, there will be

representatives from additional organizations.

“We are excited to have invited community-based organizations such as the Glendale Police Dept., L.A. County fire, Visual Effects Society and Congressman Adam Schiff’s office. JPL and ICAL will also be attending,” said Mike Greco, director of Youth at the YMCA and a CVHS alum.

Not only will students be able to explore new organizations this year, the Move Fair 2014 will shift its focus and emphasis from vendor to student relationships. This change was suggested by the YMCA’s Youth Dept., whose theme is to provide youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The YMCA will provide more than 20 vendors that will participate in the event.

“I hope the teens get a positive understanding of why it is important to volunteer or gain employment at a young age. I’m a big advocate on relationship building and networking. The more accolades you can add to your resume, the better. Likewise, the more you can get your name out there in the community, the better!” Greco said.
