AT&T has released a statement concerning the proposed cell tower at 5041 Cloud Avenue:

“AT&T is proud to be a part of the La Crescenta community. After working with neighbors and community leaders, we have decided to withdraw our current application and continue exploring alternative possible locations to upgrade wireless service in the area to close our coverage gap. We will continue working to provide our customers in La Crescenta with the best possible wireless experience.”

AT&T had applied for a 70 foot cell tower to be constructed on the Crescenta Valley Water District property in the 5000 block of Cloud Avenue. Neighbors became concerned about the tower and had approached the CVWD at their January meeting to voice their opposition.
Several neighbors including Marilyn Tyler and Karin Kim began going door to door talking to neighbors and urged residents to email comments and concerns to the Los Angeles County planner’s office. There was also a neighbor’s email set up where concerns could be shared. The main concern for residents was that the tower would be so close to homes. Tyler estimated the tower would be about 100 feet from her home.

At a recent walk through of the proposed location, Ursula Moran, a representative for AT&T, told residents and members of the CVTC the company had looked at several other locations in the area, including Valley View Elementary School, for potential sights however none other was selected for one reason or another. A CVTC Land Use committee meeting on Thursday also gave the floor to concerned residents.

CVWD board member James Bodnar told residents at the January meeting that, to his knowledge, the water district had not signed a contract. AT&T’s application to the Dept. of Regional Planning Los Angeles County had been reviewed by staff but was waiting for a review by CVTC.
The Regional Planning meeting that had originally been planned for Feb. 18 was moved to the first week of April. That meeting will no longer be necessary.
