The Crescenta Valley High School Jazz Band hosted its annual Big Band Swing Dance, inviting the entire community for a night of dancing. On Feb. 6, dancers of all ages gathered in Crescenta Valley High School’s cafeteria where they were served an Italian dinner as the CV Jazz Band played its award-winning tunes.
The band consists of 26 members led by music instructor Mathew Schick. They have been practicing for this night since the beginning of the school year.
The event is anticiapted by many in the community with more than 60 people attending the event. All proceeds for the night went toward CV’s Music Department.
“I think this is a great event when the Jazz Band could play for our community. I want to make this into something larger where more people from the community will be able to come and enjoy our music,” Schick said.
The CV Jazz Band is an award winning group that has traveled throughout the nation to perform for audiences everywhere. This year, they will be going to Hawaii to perform.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with food served by PTSA mom Cathy Turansky.
Among the crowd were Danette and Kerry Erickson.
“We love the band. We come every year and it is always a great experience. We support the Jazz Band and will follow them wherever they go,” said Danette.
The band will have more performances throughout the year. More information on performances by the band can be found on its website www.falconmusic.org.
