All In The Family

Our chamber prides itself on being one of the leading community organizations in the Crescenta Valley. We work to ensure our community’s economic well being, help facilitate growth in our existing businesses, and welcome with open arms new businesses to join our family. This month, our chamber family has grown and this is cause for celebration!

Montrose Barber Shop, one of our newest chamber members, has been part of the Montrose community since 1945. Jack ‘The Barber” Roscher took over the shop in 1968, and has cut many generations of men’s and boys’ hair. With the three full time barbers, there is a combined experience of over 110 years. Lynn Thatcher, the newest addition to the shop, is Jack’s oldest granddaughter and has done a magnificent job of maintaining a traditional barber shop feel, while keeping it fresh with continued education and innovation. The shop has expanded to cut woman’s hair, but will only do basic trims.

Lynn is looking forward to being part of our chamber and told me, “I love being here because it’s like family. I love that I really get to know my customers and their families, and that goes with being a part of a small community as well. I like feeling that I do something that makes others feel good about themselves.”

If you have grown up in the foothills, chances are pretty good that you know the Gelsinger name and their expertise in procuring the best in fine meats and deli offerings.  In 1932, Peter Gelsinger founded Gelsinger Meats and since then the Gelsinger family has stretched their knowledge by expanding their empire into some very well loved and sought-after foods. Starting around 2000, the Gelsinger family began the process of transforming their good old fashioned butcher shop into a finger licking good barbecue joint; Zeke’s serves delicious, authentic barbecue, and the absolute best country style breakfast on the weekends. The Gelsingers have a palate that is drawn to fine food and a passion to share their culinary knowledge, and this gave way for their latest venture: Gelsinger’s Amber Road. They have the freshest extra virgin olive oils, balsamic vinegars, specialty meats, cheeses, truffles and so much more. This place is heaven if you love to cook, want to change up your ordinary fare or if you need a gift or entertaining ideas. Their chipotle olive oil is so good drizzled over angel hair pasta with a little shaving of parmesan cheese. Gelsinger’s Amber Road is up around the corner from Zeke’s at 2016 Montrose Ave.

Not only has this family opened their kitchen to all of us but they have also generously donated their time and resources to many events and community organizations. We are so pleased that the Gelsinger family has joined our chamber family.

The March “Pre-Smart” business mixer is on Wednesday, March 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bob Smith Toyota.

The 26th Annual Smart-A-Thon is on Wednesday, March 26 at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.

The 9th Annual Hometown Country Fair is on Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Crescenta Valley Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta.
