3E IS DAY DEDICATED TO WOMEN
On Saturday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Heal Within founder Liza Boubari presents “Heal-thy Mind, Body & Spirit,” a one day event for women to awaken mind and spirit, discover wellness from within, gain insight to leading edge ideas, find kinship with others, experience healing circle and drums, dissolve negative thoughts and emotions and immerse in being present.

Create new habits and relationships through love and collaboration, tapping into natural gifts of passion, femininity and spirituality. Guest speakers are Dr. Nalini Chilkov, L.Ac., O.M.D., Heather McCloskey-Beck and Keri Tombazian. Mistress of ceremonies is Anush Hovsepyan-Gagua.

The cost is $135/person, $200/for two, which includes lunch and gift bag.

LCWC PRESENTS ‘STEP INTO SPRING’

GLENDALE ELKS CAR SHOW #1289
The Glendale Elks 19th Annual Charity Car Show will be held on Sunday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 120 E. Colorado Blvd. The public is welcome to come inspect an array of cars ranging from a 1914 Ford Model T to custom modified cars of many descriptions.

Both breakfast and lunch will be served throughout the day plus raffles and a silent auction. The event is free to the public.

‘ROBIN HOOD TAX’ FEATURED AT DEMO CLUB MEETING
Speakers for the “Robin Hood Tax” will be featured at the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club meeting on Sunday, March 16 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the home of Dona Mitoma and Marvin Inouye of La Cañada.

Marie Walcek of the California Nurses Association and Pierre Ungaro, RN, will explain the impact of the potential Financial Speculation (or Transaction) Tax (FST/FTT), a half percent levy on trades in derivatives, stocks, bonds, and foreign currency exchanges. This tax, aimed at the financial sector rather than individual investors, is projected to bring hundreds of billions of dollars into the U.S. Treasury.

Club business will include consideration and voting for or against endorsement of a candidate for L.A. County Sheriff. Jerry Reynolds is club president.

DAY AT THE RACES
The Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group, the Crescenta Valley and the Montrose-Verdugo City chambers of commerce are hosting the 6th Annual Crescenta Valley Day at the Races at the Santa Anita Race Track on Sunday, March 16.

The cost is $25 for adults (18 and over) and $15 for attendees 17 and under. The event takes place at the Top of the Stretch on the grandstand side – a prime viewing area. Each attendee will enjoy nine exciting thoroughbred races, parking, an official race program, barbecue lunch, soft drinks and “expert” handicapping advice from Rick Dinger.

The barbecue lunch will once again be donated by Schreiner’s Fine Sausages.

There will also be a raffle and silent auction so everyone will have the opportunity to leave a winner. Proceeds benefit the CV Sheriff Support Group and both local chambers.

FASHION SHOW, LUNCHEON AT PASADENA WOMEN’S CONNECTION
A spring fashion show and luncheon will be presented by the Pasadena Women’s Connection on Wednesday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the Women’s City Club of Pasadena. Eileen Gerber and her traveling boutique will feature the latest fashions for 2014.

Motivational speaker Karon Kanadjian, former Navy wife, mom, marathon runner and model, will tell how her “life has been like a road map.”

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. in the restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation).

The next concert is on March 19 and features countertenor Brian Asawa in recital with pianist Mark Salters.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY AIR SHOW NIGHT AT THE HANGAR
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be among the air show performers attending and addressing the crowd at the Los Angeles County Air Show Night at The Hangar. Benefitting the Flight Test Historical Foundation, the event is open to the public beginning at 6 p.m. on March 21 as a continued celebration of the inaugural Los Angeles County Air Show. Tickets are currently on sale and festivities will include a performance by the Jacob Nelson Band and conclude with a JetHawks fireworks display.

General admission tickets are $10 each. Traditional ballpark food and beer will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

‘MISS REPRESENTATION’ AT GLENDALE LIBRARY
The screening of “Miss Representation” will take place on Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Glendale Public Library auditorium. The film and post screening discussion are free to the public. Those who have already seen the film are welcome to join for the discussion at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The film, released in 2011, presents how women and girls are under-represented in positions of power and influence in America.

An accompanying curriculum for educators of K-12 and college level students is available through the City of Glendale Library, Arts and Culture Dept. as part of this program. Educators and parents are particularly encouraged to attend.

GLA HOLDING MIXER
The Glendale Latino Assn. is having its next mixer at Carousel in Glendale on Wednesday, March 26 from 5:30 p.m.  to 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. Everyone is invited to network, meet and mingle. All contributions and sponsorships benefit the GLA scholarship fund.

BOOK LAUNCH/READING/BOOKSIGNING WITH BONNIE SCHROEDER
Author Bonnie Schroeder will be reading from her new book, “Mending Dreams” at Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeeshop at a reception on March 26 at 7 p.m.

“Mending Dreams” is a contemporary woman’s novel of love, loyalty, betrayal, and renewal.

Schroeder has published short stories including “The Go-Between,” “What’s in a Name?” and “A Losing Game.” “Mending Dreams” is her first published novel.

MUSIC & CONVERSATION
On March 28 at 7 p.m. at McGroarty Arts Center, violinist Dr. Svetlana Oganesian will be performing while entertaining and educating her audience with interesting stories about the pieces and their composers. A celebration of  Bach’s birthday is planned with a trio for flute, violin and piano; also Piazzolla trio for flute, violin, piano and some scintillating violin pieces. Saida Moore will be playing the piano.

A requested donation of $2.50 the door will benefit the McGroarty Arts Center.

‘HOLISTIC MONEY’ COMING TO TOP PERFORMANCE ACADEMY
Financial educator Terry Chung will be speaking to students and families on the topic of ‘holistic money’ at the Colburn School in downtown Los Angeles on March 30 at 4 p.m. The aim of Chung’s holistic money seminars is to “bring Wall Street wealth to Main Street America.”

‘LA BELLA EPOQUE’ FROM SALON DE MUSIQUES
The next presentation of Salon de Musiques is on April 6 and is dedicated to “La Belle Epoque” with the Expressionism Movement. The program features four composers: Reynaldo Hahn, Benjamin Godard, Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Ernest Chausson.

The Pantoum Trio (Tereza Stanislav, violin, Cecilia Tsan, cello and Steven Vanhauwaert, piano) will be joined by Hae Ji Chang, soprano.

An informal Q&A with the artists will follow the performance and a gourmet buffet dinner provided by Patina with French champagne will be served.

Tickets are $39 for student, and $65 (includes dinner and drinks).

The performance takes place at 4 p.m. at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, fifth floor, 135 N. Grand Ave, Los Angeles.



‘SIMPLY SPEAKING’ LUNCHEON
On Saturday, April 12, the Junior League of Pasadena, Inc. (JLP) will host its first annual benefit luncheon, Simply Speaking, at the University Club of Pasadena. The event will highlight guest speaker and organizational expert Peter Walsh, star of the popular TLC network TV program “Clean Sweep” and author of several best-selling books on clutter and organization. The event will feature a seated lunch, silent auction and a donation drawing.

In addition, the 2014 recipient of the Nancy Reed Payne Achievement Award will be announced acknowledging a sustaining member for her exceptional contribution and years of dedication to the Junior League and to her community.

TIME EXPOSURE AT BOLTON HALL
Little Landers Historical Society announces the installation of a new temporary Bolton Hall exhibit. Until April 2014, Time Exposure will display an extensive collection of vintage cameras and projection equipment. Visit Bolton Hall to see how photo memories were recorded in the olden days.

Bolton Hall is open to the public on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and entrance is free. Special group tours may also be arranged.

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.

All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also support programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)3 organization, so donations are tax deductible. Arrangements can be made to pick-up large donations. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS
The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly infant lactation and development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m.  This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding related questions that new mothers may have.

The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
