A two car collision occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday on La Crescenta Avenue at the Foothill (210) Freeway entrance.

According to witnesses, an SUV was traveling southbound on La Crescenta Avenue. A  truck driven by a Crescenta Valley High School student was traveling northbound on La Crescenta Avenue and was apparently attempting to turn left onto the freeway entrance when the collision occurred.

A passenger in the truck, another CVHS student, was reportedly transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No one else was transported.

The truck’s driver, who is under the age of 18, had received his driver’s license less than three days prior to the accident. There were three passengers in the truck.  No information was available at press time concerning the SUV driver and passengers.

The high school boy’s family was at the scene of the accident shortly after being contacted by their son.

“I am just grateful it appears that no one has been seriously injured,” said the boy’s father.

Neighbors commented on the dangerous area and the fact that accidents are very common at the intersection.

“It was the loudest accident I have ever heard here, and I have been here a long time.  It shook the house,” said Larry Lamb, a resident at the corner of La Crescenta and Mayfield avenues.  “Those neighbors had just finished their new wall.” He pointed to a home at the southwest corner of the freeway entrance.

Lamb said that it was common for collisions at that corner to slam into the neighbor’s wall.

Another neighbor who chose not to give his name said that the fire hydrant that is on the southwest corner of the freeway entrance had recently been moved back several feet by county workers.

“It was alway being hit during an accident. I have been here for [about eight years] and have seen at least 14 accidents at this intersection, ” he said.

The California Highway Patrol investigating officer was not available at press time.
