From Feb. 15 through Feb. 17, Boy Scouts and adult advisors from Troop 319 went on a backpacking trip to the ghost town of Panamint City, near Death Valley, with a copy of their favorite newspaper, the CV Weekly. Panamint City was centered around mining silver although much of the town was destroyed in a flash flood.

Today remnants of its buildings and mining equipment remain; most notable is the town’s brick smokestack (pictured in background of photo) which still stands at an impressive height over the rest of the town.
