Tujunga resident Todd Goldsworthy, Wholesale Account manager and Coffee Guru for Klatch Coffee, has won the Southwestern Regional Brewers Cup.

The United States Brewers Cup is a competition that celebrates manual brewing.

The following local residents were among 708 students who made the dean’s list at California Lutheran University for the fall semester:

Art major Sally Gilles of Montrose, exercise science major Raquel Livingstone and psychology major Corina Wolf of Sunland; exercise science major Adrienne Ingalla of Glendale; sociology and criminal justice major Whitney Cowell and liberal studies major Young Peak of La Crescenta.

Students qualify for the dean’s list by maintaining a 3.6 grade point average in their academic subjects. They will be recognized for their achievement at the honors convocation on April 29.

CLU is a selective university based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., with additional centers in Oxnard, Woodland Hills, Santa Maria and Berkeley.

Kaelin King of La Cañada Flintridge has been named to the 2013 fall semester dean’s list at Lafayette College for outstanding academic achievement. To qualify for dean’s list, a student must achieve at least a 3.60 semester grade point average on a scale of 4.0. Kaelin is a graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School.

Lafayette is a top liberal arts college with 2,400 students and 215 full-time faculty that offers a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs including engineering.

Bucknell University has released the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester 2013-14 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean’s list recognition. Students include

Daniel Lazier of La Cañada Flintridge, the son of David and Janet Lazier and a 2011 graduate of Flintridge Preparatory School; James Lynch of La Cañada Flintridge, the son of James and Elizabeth Lynch and a 2010 graduate of La Cañada HS; Kailey Tindle of Glendale, the daughter of Amy Nance and Stephen and Vivian Tindle and a 2011 graduate of Crescenta Valley HS.

Located in Lewisburg, Pa., Bucknell University is a highly selective, private, liberal arts university that offers majors in the arts, engineering, humanities, management, and social and natural sciences, along with broad opportunities outside of class, to its 3,600 undergraduates.

For the second year, the Army and Navy Academy Advanced concert band will perform during the North County Music Festival at El Camino High School. The North County Music Festival is an adjudicated concert band and orchestra event for middle school and high school bands in the North San Diego County area.

Brandon Um of La Cañada, a member the advanced concert band, performed on Friday, March 7. The band played two prepared selections from the festival music list and a third of their own choosing. After the performance, the cadets were evaluated by judges on sight-reading.

Danielle Comorre, a junior from Tujunga, has recently been named to the honor roll for the winter term at The Loomis Chaffee School.

Located in historic Windsor, Conn., Loomis Chaffee is an internationally recognized college preparatory school for grades 9-12 that fosters critical thinking and a global perspective in talented students from around the state, the country and the world.

Kara Lankey of La Cañada has been named to the dean’s list at Pacific University (Ore.) for the fall semester 2013. Lankey is among 332 of Pacific’s 1,783 undergraduate students to achieve this high academic honor.

To qualify for the dean’s list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term grade-point average 3.70 (4.00 scale) and complete 12 or more graded hours.

The following local students were named to the Southern Methodist University undergraduate honor roll for the fall 2013 semester:

Camille McCarty of La Crescenta and a first year student at SMU was named to the honor roll with high distinction which includes students in the top five percentile; Ryan Reed, a resident of La Cañada Flintridge and a first year at SMU, was named to the honor roll which includes students in the top 15 percentile; Daniel Trujillo, a resident of La Cañada Flintridge and a senior at SMU, was named to the honor roll with distinction which includes students in the top 10 percentile.

SMU’s fall 2013 enrollment included 10,972 students.

Sierra Nelson of Tujunga has been accepted to Cornell College, a private liberal arts college located in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Cara DeCaro, a Denison University (Granville, Ohio) student from Tujunga, is studying off campus for the spring 2014 semester. DeCaro, a member of the class of 2015, is studying with the Philadelphia Center Program in Philadelphia.

Many of Denison’s undergraduate students choose to broaden their horizons through off-campus study each semester. In these programs, students continue to receive full credit toward a Denison degree while pursuing diverse research or academic opportunities.

Ian Kim of Sunland and Brandon Um of La Cañada were among the Army and Navy cadets who were awarded the Major Peterson Legion of Merit Award on Sunday, March 16. This award is presented to cadets who exhibit excellence in citizenship, leadership and personal appearance. The cadet must be in a leadership position with the rank of corporal or higher during the previous semester, and must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and a citizenship grade of excellent for each grading period.

Shannon Streeter of La Cañada Flintridge earned an undergraduate degree from California Lutheran University in December. Streeter graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and English and is eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony on May 17.

Rex Noreen of La Cañada Flintridge and Alejandro Vaca of La Crescenta were recently named to CSUF Mihaylo College of Business and Economics dean’s list for academic excellence for the 2013 fall semester:

The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher while taking a minimum of 12 or more graded credit hours for the semester.

Emerson College student Young Min Kim of La Crescenta, a film production major, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester. The criterion to make Emerson’s dean’s list is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Emerson College is located in Boston, Mass.
