A Fairly Good Day!

And at the end of the Fair, once all was packed up, cleaned up and put away, the field of grass at CV Park was once again calm.

From the early hours of set up ’til the early evening before dark, there was something to do, and many who literally did not stop moving until it was all done. If you had the chance to join us this past Saturday, thank you for sharing the day with us. It was an action-packed, hour-by-hour event and was the definition and example of “hometown.”

The CV Chamber of Commerce extends a sincere thank you to all who made the fair a success. Behind the scenes was a volunteer-based committee that had monthly, weekly and daily planning meetings so that this ninth annual family-fun event could take place.

Event co-chair and chamber president Steve Pierce shared this sentiment: “Blessed with perfect weather, this year’s Hometown Country Fair attracted an enthusiastic crowd from the moment the gates opened. The fair had it all . . . classic cars, dogs of all sizes, burgers and hot dogs, performers, vendors with everything imaginable, carnival rides … you name it and it was there. Our Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce sincerely thanks our sponsors, volunteers and everyone who attended. If the smiles were any indication, this was one of the best fairs yet.”

Bright and early in the morning, Joe Agnone of Starbuck’s delivered coffee to the working crew, including Leonard Ghazarian of Caspian Services, Craig Fisher of Craig’s Electric, Kaipo Chock of JR Hardware Sash & Door and TCScooterZ, Bruce Bartels of Bruce’s Automotive, Aram Ordubegian of Arent Fox, Mike Riley of Riley & Associates, Doug Dall, Clark Magnet principal, and our indispensible volunteers Mike Maluccio, Mike Baldwin, John Giblin, Cindy Charles and Kyle Studebaker. They arrived very early and hauled, directed traffic, loaded, unloaded and stayed late to ensure the park was back to normal.

We had almost 100 vendors selling, sharing and educating fair goers, and our other event chair, Julia Rabago, organized them all … even last minute entries who popped in early hoping we had space.

Thank you to Dr. J.D. Speas of the Crescenta Cañada Pet Hospital, who organized and led our dog parade. Ella Hambarchian, of SoCalMotorCo., spearheaded our silent auction booth along with Dr. Cynthia Livingston, Rosemont principal, Warren Boehm, of Boehm Ins., and Eleanor Wacker. The very popular pie-eating contest was led by three amazing gentleman: Lynn McGinnis, Joe Kroening and Charly Shelton. Dwight Sityar of the Early Rodders led our biggest hot rod car show to date with almost 70 entries.

A special thank you to the entire Maluccio family and Millie Alvarez for brilliantly running the kitchen and serving up tasty food. Throughout the day, several folks helped at the grill including Marvin Lee of Keller Williams Realty, Chris Aristo of State Farm Insurance and members of the local VFW and American Legion.

Anthony Portantino, Carlos Alvarez and Todd Hunt took turns as masters of ceremony, and shared in the day’s activities.

All of our volunteers were led by a volunteer herself. Robin Goldsworthy of this great paper orchestrated an assembly line of troopers to help with literally anything that was needed. A huge shout out to Prom Plus Club, volunteers from Rosemont Middle School and CVHS, and members of our Falcon football team.

A sincere thank you goes out to those volunteers who could not make it but helped by coordinating supplies, sponsors, and volunteers. Thank you to Stella Zielinski of Trader Joe’s Montrose, Ken Biermann, retired CVHS principal and Lt. Lola Abrahamian of the Glendale Police Dept.

We sure had an army behind us this past weekend, and I hope I did not forget anyone. We are still recovering from all of the weekend’s excitement. The fair was the epitome of what makes our Valley the unbelievable hometown that it is. Thank you again for spending the day with us!
