The Third Annual Crescenta Valley Prayer Breakfast will be held on May 6. This year’s topic is speaking life into the next generation. This theme is fitting as one of the main purposes of the prayer breakfasts has been to provide guidance to the youth of La Crescenta.

In previous years, the event has been held at Holy Redeemer and the local Church of Latter Day Saints. This year, the breakfast will take place at First Baptist Church at La Crescenta near Cr High School.

Rodger Kamstra will be the main speaker at the CV Prayer Breakfast. Kamstra has worked as a youth pastor as well as with numerous inner city outreaches and international outreach. Kamstra studied at Fuller Theological Seminary and is currently the Associate Pastor for Church for the Nations in Glendale.

The practice of prayer breakfasts is fairly widespread: most towns and cities hold one annually to discuss the state of the community and local youth. A few months ago, the United States Capital held their prayer breakfast with President Obama in attendance.

“The purpose is to bring all the denominations and all the community together in  prayer and to consult and help our youth,” CV Town Council councilmember Harry Leon said.

The CV Town Council began to host their own prayer breakfast to discuss the state of the community and bring everyone closer together.

“Even though we’re small, our visions are big and our dreams are bigger,” Leon said.

The event will take place from 7 am to 8:30 am. Admission for adults is $10 and free for students.
