18th Annual Golf Classic and Scholarship Fundraiser
Disc Golfers Welcome!
Join us Thursday, May 15 for the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce’s 18th annual Golf Classic and Scholarship Fundraiser at the Verdugo Hills Golf Course! This is also our first annual disc golf classic, so everyone can now join in on the fun. Not only does the event promise to be a fun day at a beautiful location in Verdugo-City, but it is also a chance to help provide scholarships to local graduating seniors from Crescenta Valley and Clark Magnet high schools. Included in your $50 entrance fee is lunch from some of Montrose’s local restaurants: Giuseppe’s Pizzeria, Sake Sushi, El Charro, OV Bistro, Gio’s Banquettes and More, Montrose Bakery and Café and Schreiners Fine Sausages. Refreshments are provided at various holes throughout the course and beer is included at Tees on the Green. All you can eat and drink plus a fun day of golf for only $50. You can’t beat that!
After you finish your round of golf, you will be treated to pizza from All In 7 Stop Pizza. Not only will they have their regular pizza on hand but they are also bringing their famous Nutella dessert pizza for you to try!
At 3:30 p.m. we will have our scholarship ceremony when we present the scholarships to the winners. It is very exciting to meet the kids and see where your dollars are going. We award our scholarships to students who are actively involved in the community and are looking to come back to the community after college to live and work. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the lives of our local students. Our golf tournament begins with a putting challenge at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 11 a.m. and our shotgun starts at noon.
Many of our sponsors this year have said, “I would like to make a donation to the scholarship fund and not necessarily participate in the golf tournament. Is that something I can do?” We say yes! We will accept any and all donations. For more information about making a donation, please contact the chamber office at (818) 249-7171 or mail a donation of any amount to the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce, 3516 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale, CA 91208.
Vote June 3! Don’t forget about the special election to fill one open seat on the Glendale City dais. Rick Barnes – business owner/realtor, Mike Mohill – retired businessman, Chahe Keuroghelian – small business manager, Paula Devine – retired teacher, and Vartan Gharpetian – business owner are the five candidates running. With five people running and only one seat available, you need to educate yourself about each candidate so you can make an informed decision. That is why we are holding a candidates’ forum so you can make an informed choice at the polls. The forum, hosted by Glendale Newspress editor Dan Evans, is on Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Sparr Heights Community Center. We are will have all five Glendale City Council candidates available so you can ask them the questions we need answers to. Do you have a question for the Glendale City Council candidates? Please email mvcc@montrosechamber.org, log onto our website at www.montrosechamber.org or call (818) 249-7171 with your questions. You will also be able to submit written questions at the event. For more information about the candidates and the election, log onto Glendalevotes.org. GlendaleVotes.org updates its website frequently with information about the election and the candidates vying for the open seat.
