Some ladies from the La Crescenta Woman’s Club made a trip to Glendale Memorial Breast Cancer Center to distribute some of their handmade chemo caps. They were met by Mary Ann Robertson, associate supervisor of the center.
The facility provides diagnosis and treatment to many people with breast and other forms of cancer. The LCWC ladies were given a tour of the facility and had the opportunity to view some of the current methods of treatment and diagnostics that the center provides. The women gave the center 40 handmade caps and six handmade shoulder shrugs to keep patients warm.
The following week, the ladies made a trip to Kaiser Hospital in Panorama City to give 50 hats and 10 shoulder shrugs to Charlene Roske, Clinical Research nurse at the facility. The patients look forward to receiving the caps and always display a broad smile while trying them on.
Sandra Satterwhite is the LCWC chairperson who organized the chemo cap project for the club. She collects the caps from the various volunteers, sorts them by size, packages them in plastic and researches organizations that need them. Anyone who would like to donate yarn to this project can call Maryann Chapman at (818) 219-1702.
This is one of many worthwhile projects that the La Crescenta Woman’s Club does for the community. Anyone interested in joining the club and helping the community while meeting interesting women of all ages can call Dawna Berger for information at (818) 957-6939.
