The Crescenta Valley baseball team lost May 30 at Placentia Valencia 8-2, ending the program’s best run through the playoffs since 2007.
The Falcons advanced to the quarterfinals, one win away from the semifinals and two away from playing for the CIF Division II championship at Dodger Stadium.
The Falcons led the Tigers 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but a couple of errors and some unlucky bounces gave the Tigers six runs in that frame, which spelled doom for starting pitcher Tanner Carrico (above right) and his teammates.
It was Crescenta Valley’s first loss since April 1, a Pacific League opening defeat to Pasadena. CV finished the regular season 19-7-1, and won its third straight league title. It last won a CIF championship in 1998.
Outgoing seniors include Carrico, designated hitter Austin Brines, infielder/pitcher Joe Torres, centerfielder Bryan Wang, second baseman Nick Diaz, outfielder Michael Russo (above left) and designated player Kevin Hello.
