Looking forward, summer will bring a lot of activities to the CV Town Council and the community. If you have been a fan of the Summer Beach Bus, then you will be happy to know service begins June 17 for the La Crescenta area. As is typical, reservations should be made. Links to the complete schedule can be found on the CVTC website.

If you’re up for digging in the dirt, building stone walls or generally lending a hand to beautify your community, let us know. It’s now Council’s turn to fulfill our part of the Crescenta Commons project on the corner of Orange and Rosemont avenues. We could sure use some masonry and planting help. Our goal is to have the site completed by the start of the school year.

If you are interested in what Los Angeles County Parks has to offer this summer, be sure to stop by our June 19 council meeting starting at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library community room. In addition, MTA will present some possible changes to the bus routes especially those along La Crescenta Avenue.

Some old business running into summer is the ongoing discussion over the possible boundary changes from Glendale Unified and La Cañada Unified school districts. This topic has become quite heated with residents in La Crescenta stating they do not want the park on Ocean View owned by Glendale Unified sold as part of the transfer. In addition, parents continue to push GUSD for a better plan for Mountain Avenue since the only thing thus far that has been presented is the possible movement of many of the local elementary school boundaries. This change in boundaries will not only affect Mountain Avenue Elementary, but more than likely almost all elementary schools in the foothills and the northerly end of Glendale. The next GUSD school board meeting is Tuesday, June 15 starting at 5 p.m., should you have something on your mind.

Taking a look into July, Assemblyman Mike Gatto will be our guest speaker for our July 17 general meeting. Of course, you could not talk about July and Fourth of July fireworks without mentioning the fireworks extravaganza held on the playground at La Crescenta Elementary. Tickets are $7 if pre-purchased and $10 on the day of the event even if you use the temporary drive-thru set up the day of the event.
