With summer drawing near, some graduating seniors have chosen to move forward with their education via the community college route. That generally means Glendale Community College or Pasadena City College for local graduates.
Admissions are currently open for both schools.
Glendale Community College’s deadline for fall 2014 priority registration is Friday, June 13. Priority registration lasts from June 30 to July 18.
Pasadena City College will stop accepting online admissions for summer 2014 on June 29. Students are informed of priority registration times via email, once they are accepted at PCC.
Both colleges also offer Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAG), which allows students to see precisely which classes and other requirements must be completed for a particular school in order to transfer early.
Glendale Community College’s TAG deadline is Sept. 30. GCC’s TAG program includes UC Davis, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Northridge, UCLA and Western Oregon University.
Pasadena City College’s program includes UC San Diego, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Merced, UC Davis, Woodbury University, and Whittier College. The deadline for applying is Sept. 30 for all schools except Woodbury and Whittier.
Dina Chase, PCC director of Outreach, Degree and Transfer Services said that PCC is working to develop programs in more schools, including some for international students. Chase also noted that students must be certain of the requirements for each school’s TAG program because the requirements differ from school to school.
“Students are advised to visit the website of the institution to which they plan to submit a TAG for details,” said Chase.
Both schools will be providing workshops to aid students in applying to the school of their choice.
“Starting in July, PCC’s Transfer Center will conduct workshops to assist students submitting their TAGs to the UC campuses,” said Chase.
GCC will also be providing TAG Application Workshops in September.
