CVCA to Meet Tonight
Please join the Crescenta Valley Community Association for its monthly meeting tonight, Thursday, June 26, at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library. The meeting will include guest speaker Ara Najarian from the Glendale City Council and Metro board member. He will give an update on the SR-710 North Extension and other local issues.

Town Hall Event
Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Services – AODPS – with The Village and CV Alliance, is hosting a panel at a town hall event tonight, June 26, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Brand Library. The panel will include Hannah Sheklow form The Village, Sona Hovsepian from CV Alliance, and Lt. Tim Feeley from Glendale Police Dept. The open forum is being held to raise community awareness on the issue of underage drinking, how underage drinking affects the community, and talk about possible solutions. This meeting is an opportunity for all community members to voice their concerns and suggest ideas for preventing underage drinking.

Brand Library is located at 1601 W. Mountain St. in Glendale. The event has not been affected by the fire.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate
The community is invited to Rosemont Preserve to enjoy a morning in nature! An “open gate” event is on Saturday, June 28. This is a chance to visit the Preserve and wander the trail to enjoy the tranquil setting, wildlife and natural beauty. Volunteer guides will also be available to lead a leisurely walk emphasizing native plant identification.

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friends of the Rosemont Preserve committee members will be available to answer questions. The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Those planning on walking the trail should wear sturdy shoes. This event is open to members of the public, suitable for all ages, and completely free. Sorry, no pets.

SAFE Hosts Panel Event
The SAFE Family Task Force, an initiative of the Neighborhood Legal Services of LA (NLSLA), is hosting a free panel event entitled “Demystifying Domestic Violence” tonight, Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m. at Glendale Adventist Hospital in the main auditorium. Community-based domestic violence advocates provide community members with information and resources to keep family members safe.

The event is co-hosted by the Office of Senator Carol Liu. Panelists include Lt. Lola Abrahamian of the Glendale Police Dept.; Rosanna Cacace from Planned Parenthood; Natalie Samarjian and Monica Kane with NLSLA; Sharon Townsend of Glendale Healthy Kids; and Armineh Gourgian, MS, MFT.

Board Apps Being Accepted
Applications are being accepted through Monday, June 30 at 5 p.m. by the Burbank City Clerk’s Office for vacancies on the Burbank Water and Power board and the Senior Citizen board (must be a senior citizen). Those interested in applying for a vacancy can download and complete an application form on the Burbank City’s website www.burbankca.gov/departments/city-clerk-s-office or pick up the application form in the Burbank City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 275 E. Olive Ave. Some boards, commissions, and committees have certain restrictions on composition of the group. All terms commence after council appointment.

The appointments by Burbank City Council are scheduled to be made at the July 15 at the city council meeting. All city board, commission, and committee members serve without compensation from the city.

Applications are still being accepted for the second session of Camp Rosie, which runs form July 7 to July 24. Sponsored by Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women, Camp Rosie is geared for teens in middle and high school between 12 and 18 years to empower them to make personal, educational, financial and career choices so they can achieve self-sufficiency, career satisfaction, and long-term financial security. This is a great opportunity for students to learn, develop relationships and have some fun.
