The Insurance Brokers and Agents of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena held the local qualifying tournament for the Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Golf National Championship on June 24 at the Oakmont Country Club. The low qualifier was Tristan Stone of Moreno Valley shooting 74 in breezy conditions. Stone was recruited to Cal State Bakersfield by Greg Osbourne, former Glendale College golf coach and now head coach at the one division university.
Osbourne said, “I am so excited to have Tristan coming to Cal State Bakersfield. He will be our captain and the cornerstone of our program.”
Osbourne, who attended Hoover High School and GCC, added, “Although I live in Bakersfield now, Glendale will always be my home. I am so happy one of my new guys did so well down there.”
David Holeman of La Crescenta was second shooting 79 with even par back 9. CV Falcon senior Cody Renfro finished third with an 88.
The next stage of qualifying for the National Championship will be the Big “I” Junior Classic California State Tournament that will be held at De Laveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz on July 13-14. The golfers who qualify from the state tournament will advance to the National Big “I” Junior Classic held at the Pete Dye Club in Bridgeport West Virginia on Aug. 5-8.
